The used EV market is booming — but many owners are unsure about the best price.
This guide covers everything: battery health, optimal pricing, and best selling strategy.
From battery health to timing: everything for a successful EV sale.
Battery State of Health (SoH) is the #1 price factor. SoH 90%+ = premium pricing. autoweg.ch offers free EV valuations.
SoH indicates the current battery condition vs. new. SoH 100% = full capacity. Most retain 80-90% after 8 years.

The battery is 40% of value. An independent battery check is the best investment.
Switzerland is one of Europe's most attractive markets for used electric vehicles:
Share of electric and hybrid vehicles in new car sales 2024
EV sales growth compared to 2023
Swiss dealers actively seek used electric cars to meet growing demand. Tesla Model 3/Y, VW ID.4/5 and Audi e-tron are particularly sought-after.
Premium EVs (Tesla, Audi, BMW) lose 15-20% less value than budget EVs in first 3 years. Battery health is main factor for resale value.
Many cantons offer EV incentives. This increases demand for used EVs in mid-price segment (CHF 25,000-45,000).
For electric cars, battery health (SOH = State of Health) is more important than mileage. Dealers check this first.

State of Health (SOH) measures current battery capacity vs. new condition. A battery with 90% SOH has 90% of its original capacity.
Excellent – like new. Top prices, no deductions.
Good – normal aging. Slight price reductions (5-10%).
Acceptable – noticeable capacity loss. Price reductions 15-25%.
Range anxiety is the main reason for EV purchase hesitation. Transparent communication builds trust and price.
Provide real range (winter/summer). Example: 'WLTP 520 km, real approx. 400 km highway, 450 km city'.
Screenshot of current 100% range from vehicle. Shows actual battery condition.
Mention Switzerland has one of Europe's densest charging networks. Reassures buyers.
e.g. '16.5 kWh/100km average' – shows efficient driving style and realistic expectations.
Tesla and BMW hold value best. VW ID models depreciate most.

Tesla has the strongest resale value among all EVs in Switzerland. Supercharger network, OTA updates and brand reputation make Tesla particularly attractive to dealers.
Advantage: Tesla app shows detailed battery stats. Use for transparency. Full Self-Driving (FSD) subscription does NOT transfer – clarify with buyer.
VW ID series is very popular in Switzerland due to German engineering and good dealer network. Resale value is solid but not as strong as Tesla.
Note: VW offers 8 years / 160,000 km battery warranty. Document remaining years/km.
BMW EVs appeal to premium buyers. i4 and iX hold value well. i3 (older models) have shorter range and lose more value.
Tip: BMW offers Certified Pre-Owned programs – ask dealer if your car qualifies.
Audi e-tron and Q4 e-tron hold value well (premium segment). Hyundai/Kia offer long warranties (7 years), supporting resale value. Nissan Leaf and Renault Zoe lose more value due to smaller batteries and older technology.
Warranty Transfer: Check if manufacturer warranty is transferable. Many transfer battery warranty to new owner – increases value.
Used electric car prices depend on specific factors less relevant for combustion cars:
90%+ SOH = near-new prices. 80-89% = slight reductions. Under 80% = significant reductions (15-30%). Get SOH professionally checked.
EVs often have 8 years / 160,000 km battery warranty. More remaining warranty = higher price. Document warranty end date.
EVs with >400 km real range achieve higher prices. Under 250 km = harder to sell (except city cars like Smart EQ).
800V architecture (Porsche Taycan, Hyundai Ioniq 5) enables ultra-fast charging – premium factor. CCS connector is standard in Switzerland – CHAdeMO (Nissan Leaf) is less sought-after.
Over-the-Air updates (Tesla, Polestar, VW ID) increase value. Older EVs without OTA (Nissan Leaf, Renault Zoe) lose more value.
Estimate how SoH affects your price
Estimate based on market data.
Avoid these costly mistakes
Without SoH proof, buyers lose confidence.
Get independent battery check (Aviloo, ADAC).
CHF 2,000-5,000 difference
EVs lose most value in first 2-3 years.
Sell after 2-3 years or hold until stable.
CHF 3,000-8,000
Not all platforms are EV-specialized.
Use autoweg.ch for EVs.
Weeks delay + lower price
Buyers want real range, not WLTP.
Document real winter range and SoH.
CHF 1,000-3,000
Current software improves range and features.
All updates before selling.
CHF 500-2,000
Potential total loss: CHF 5,000-15,000
Markus from Bern, Tesla Model 3 LR 2022, 45,000 km, SoH 94%.
Battery check (CHF 120), sold for CHF 32,500 via autoweg. Without SoH: CHF 29,000.
CHF 120 → CHF 3,500 more. Best CHF 120 ever spent.
Used EV demand is exploding in 2025.
The EV market needs transparency.
Our dealers know EVs and offer fair prices based on actual battery condition.
Every EV owner deserves a fair, transparent process.
