Everything about battery health, dealer demand, range, warranties and how to get the best price for your electric vehicle.
Electric cars have strong demand in Switzerland. Battery health (SOH) is the most important factor – document it professionally. Swiss dealers pay premium prices for well-maintained EVs with >85% battery health.
SOH >90% = top prices. Get condition checked and documented before sale.
19.2% of all new car sales in Switzerland are EVs. Dealers actively seek used electric cars.
Tesla and premium brands (Audi e-tron, BMW iX) hold value better than budget EVs.
⚡ Swiss EV Market 2024
Switzerland has Europe's highest EV penetration (after Norway). Dealers compete for quality used EVs.
Switzerland is one of Europe's most attractive markets for used electric vehicles:
Share of electric and hybrid vehicles in new car sales 2024
EV sales growth compared to 2023
Swiss dealers actively seek used electric cars to meet growing demand. Tesla Model 3/Y, VW ID.4/5 and Audi e-tron are particularly sought-after.
Premium EVs (Tesla, Audi, BMW) lose 15-20% less value than budget EVs in first 3 years. Battery health is main factor for resale value.
Many cantons offer EV incentives. This increases demand for used EVs in mid-price segment (CHF 25,000-45,000).
For electric cars, battery health (SOH = State of Health) is more important than mileage. Dealers check this first.
State of Health (SOH) measures current battery capacity vs. new condition. A battery with 90% SOH has 90% of its original capacity.
Excellent – like new. Top prices, no deductions.
Good – normal aging. Slight price reductions (5-10%).
Acceptable – noticeable capacity loss. Price reductions 15-25%.
Range anxiety is the main reason for EV purchase hesitation. Transparent communication builds trust and price.
Provide real range (winter/summer). Example: 'WLTP 520 km, real approx. 400 km highway, 450 km city'.

Mention Switzerland has one of Europe's densest charging networks. Reassures buyers.
e.g. '16.5 kWh/100km average' – shows efficient driving style and realistic expectations.
Tesla has the strongest resale value among all EVs in Switzerland. Supercharger network, OTA updates and brand reputation make Tesla particularly attractive to dealers.
Advantage: Tesla app shows detailed battery stats. Use for transparency. Full Self-Driving (FSD) subscription does NOT transfer – clarify with buyer.
VW ID series is very popular in Switzerland due to German engineering and good dealer network. Resale value is solid but not as strong as Tesla.
Note: VW offers 8 years / 160,000 km battery warranty. Document remaining years/km.
BMW EVs appeal to premium buyers. i4 and iX hold value well. i3 (older models) have shorter range and lose more value.
Tip: BMW offers Certified Pre-Owned programs – ask dealer if your car qualifies.
Audi e-tron and Q4 e-tron hold value well (premium segment). Hyundai/Kia offer long warranties (7 years), supporting resale value. Nissan Leaf and Renault Zoe lose more value due to smaller batteries and older technology.
Warranty Transfer: Check if manufacturer warranty is transferable. Many transfer battery warranty to new owner – increases value.
Used electric car prices depend on specific factors less relevant for combustion cars:
90%+ SOH = near-new prices. 80-89% = slight reductions. Under 80% = significant reductions (15-30%). Get SOH professionally checked.
EVs often have 8 years / 160,000 km battery warranty. More remaining warranty = higher price. Document warranty end date.
EVs with >400 km real range achieve higher prices. Under 250 km = harder to sell (except city cars like Smart EQ).
800V architecture (Porsche Taycan, Hyundai Ioniq 5) enables ultra-fast charging – premium factor. CCS connector is standard in Switzerland – CHAdeMO (Nissan Leaf) is less sought-after.
Over-the-Air updates (Tesla, Polestar, VW ID) increase value. Older EVs without OTA (Nissan Leaf, Renault Zoe) lose more value.
Option 1: Brand workshop (Tesla Service, VW workshop) can read SOH (cost: CHF 50-150). Option 2: OBD adapter + app (e.g. 'Leaf Spy' for Nissan, 'Scan My Tesla'). Option 3: Some EVs show SOH in vehicle app (Tesla shows estimated range at 100%).
Depends on brand. Tesla, Audi e-tron and BMW iX lose LESS value than comparable combustion cars (15-20% less depreciation in 3 years). Budget EVs (Nissan Leaf, Renault Zoe) lose MORE value due to faster technological obsolescence.
No! Modern EV batteries last 300,000-500,000 km. Even at 150,000 km and 85% SOH, no battery replacement needed. Dealers factor SOH into price – no reason for premature replacement.
Home wallbox is a bonus but not decisive. Mention in listing ('includes 11kW wallbox'). But: Wallbox usually stays with house – clarify with buyer.
Some older EVs (Renault Zoe pre-2020) had battery leasing. This reduces sale price as buyer continues battery rent (approx. CHF 70-100/month). Document leasing terms clearly.
Yes! Swiss dealers actively seek used EVs. Tesla, VW ID and premium brands often achieve HIGHER prices than private sales because dealers have access to commercial buyers.
Yes. Our dealer network includes specialized EV dealers who can professionally assess battery health. You'll receive competitive offers based on real EV knowledge, not combustion car logic.
